Week 13 – 28 March 2014 – Two Mornings

I set myself the challenge to write a “love gone wrong” song. It’s about the feeling just before ending a relationship and the idea of splitting the future back into two.

This is obviously a huge power ballad and should be orchestral, with soaring backing vocals and an enormous voice to do it justice, but I trust you can hear this in the demo with just my dodgy piano playing and squeaky falsetto.

Lyrics: Two Mornings

All the way home I thought of you
I understood what I had to do
Alone in the throng, I was certain and strong
Now I’m crowded by you
And the ghosts of our love

Wish I was on my way home
Rushing to you
Back when you were strange
When you were new
Now I pace through these rooms, avoiding you
Standing under the light
Smiling at me
When I need clarity

There’s two mornings coming
One is yours now, one is mine
Every morning I’m alive
I’ll wonder if I did you right
Is there love and is there light
In your morning

Sentences come out of my head
I say them out loud
Then reel at what I’ve said
There’s no profit in this
The sunlight won’t save me
Everything is a gift
There’s no safety

There’s two mornings coming
One is yours now, one is mine
I’ll think back to this night
And be sure I’m doing right
There’ll be yours and there’ll be mine
Two mornings

I see the first light
The birds and I see it
They sound happy

There’s two morning coming
One is yours now, one is mine
Every morning I’m alive
I’ll wonder if I did you right
Hope there’s love and there is light
In our mornings
