Week 17 – 25 April 2014 – Dolphins

This is a lighthearted song about a fact I didn’t know until a week or so ago. That dolphins don’t breathe automatically. It lead to these musings on how we could all do with a reminder to have a good deep breath now and then. I would have thought that I’d have written some comedy songs by now but this is the closest I’ve got so far.

Lyrics:

Dolphins have to remember to breathe
If they forget they die
I always thought they were smart
But over focus on a fish it’s bye bye

Only half their brain sleeps at any time
The other part stays alert
To concentrate on the in and out
Sounds like bleedin’ hard work

But maybe they do it better than us
Cos they give it more care
We sub-contract to the subconscious
So it’s shallow and hardly there

Every in is a chance to breathe
To really breathe and let go
To change the unwanted for the wanted
To swap the old for the new

Maybe dolphins are smart after all
Though they breathe through a hole in their head
They do the big little things of life
Don’t waste time on watching TV in bed

Every breath is an invitation to live
It’s always a beautiful option
Millions go by unnoticed
But any one could bring us freedom

Breathe deep my friends, breathe deep
Breathe deep and make a wish
Be grateful you don’t need half a brain to breathe
And don’t have to jump hoops to get fish
