Week 14 – 4 April 2014 – Younger

This is about feeling younger than young people – or rather than I did when actually was young – because I feel happier and freer.

It’s one of the happiest songs I’ve ever written

Here in the city of the young, I feel younger than them, freer than them
I pass a girl in a green dress, red flower in her red hair
I pass her twice, she ignores me twice
But I love her more than she can know
And the skinny boy swinging her young hips
As if he didn’t know what fear is
But I know he knows what fear is
I see all of this and I feel
Younger than them, freer than them
Leaving so much behind to be happy today
But I’m happy today and holding on to what’s gone won’t help me feel this way
It’s a new day, another you day
And I say…
I love you more than you can know
I’m not that skinny boy swinging his young hips
As if he didn’t know what fear is
Now he no longer knows what fear is
I love all of this and I feel younger than then, freer than then
Leaving so much behind to be happy today
But I’m happy today and holding on to what’s gone won’t help me feel this way
It’s a new day, another you day
And I say, I feel younger than then, freer than then
(and yes, if you’re paying a level of attention that is a little worrisome, I did record it last week at the same time as Two Mornings)
