This week’s song has words by C S Lewis and tune by me.
Lewis’ book A Grief Observed is extraordinary and a huge comfort to me when I was first in the strange land of grief. But I would humbly suggest that everyone should read it. If the idea of reading a book about losing the person closest to you terrifies you, that’s even more of a reason to do it.
You can download the entire text here A Grief Observed:
These few tiny lines jumped out at me and I wrote a melody that I hope enhances them.
Spiral
One keeps emerging from a phase
But it always recurs
Round and round, everything repeats
Round and round, everything repeats
Am I going in circles, or dare I hope I am on a spiral
But if a spiral am I going up or down?
Am I going up or down?
How often — will it be for always
How often will that vast emptiness astonish me
Like a complete novelty
Am I going in circles, or dare I hope I am on a spiral
But if a spiral am I going up or down?
Am I going up or down?
They say the coward dies many times, so does the beloved
