I am in Melbourne, Australia. I decided to write without censoring myself and see what my subconscious came up with. It seems to be a splitting up song, which is a little odd and not relevant at all, but I like the song. Recorded as the winter sun streams in through the windows. I’m not singing to the bear, by the way. He is not implicated in this relationship breakup. I just needed the company. (Thanks to Julia for the house and the borrow of the bear)
The Heat
The heat in on, easy is gone
Here’s where we learn whose right and wrong
Should we be writing leaving songs?
Or harmonising, call and response
The heat brings chill, we are so alive
Awake all night as we analyse
The futures we keep, the futures pulverised
Then dawn brings truth that feels like lies
And in time we will make sense of this
Or time will slaughter sense
There was love at the start of this
And there’s love if this is the end
The heat returns, your anger burns
My need to please, yet state my terms
The axis on which this fragile love turns
Vulnerability makes us squirm
And in time there will be nothing of this
Time always wins in the end
There was hope at the start of this
Hope is the enemy, our friend
The heat is where we are most alive
The heat is where we live
And in time I will be cold again
And in time I’ll yearn to burn
The heat is on, easy is gone
Where you and me’s concerned, there’s no right or wrong
