I’ve got a song about the Malaysian Air disaster. Not about the politics or what it must have been like to be there but a simple song about what it was like on a 24 hour flight on Malaysian four days ago.
I’m having trouble uploading the video. It will be viewable shortly.
Long Haul
Four days back, fully returned
Something not quite right
Something still in flight
In flight, a world away from the world
I watch foreign language films
My neighbour back to back Girls
In a corridor from Louis Vuitton to Hugo Boss
Sleepy hours endured and lost
From duty free to duty free
With just empty air in between
I didn’t look down, I didn’t look out
Didn’t interact with the interactive map
The most profound thought I had in two days of flight
Was never look into the bathroom mirror in the middle of the night
It’s always night on a long haul flight
The window shades keep out the days
The lights down low
Eating peanuts, pliant in rows
Squished tight yet alone, High over war zones
We can’t fly in the face of the fragility of life
We must trust, we must have faith, we must be trite
We mustn’t look down, we shouldn’t look out
Each flight is like time, it pushes us on
The engines roar us forward leaving what’s gone
Time has the right to fly, but do we?
