The last song of 52 Fridays song project sees me singing uplifting Christmas songs with friends and family from the same sheet music I have used since I was four years old and reflecting on finding light in the dark. It’s been a tricky few months, recovering from glandular fever, illnesses and deaths of those close to me – lots of life, basically. So this time of celebration has found me wanting, and wanting to lie on the floor and forget it all. But of course, I haven’t. And I have found so much love, life and above all, hope waiting for me.
Happy Christmas…….
(this last song got special video treatment from Jonah on the camera, and a live audience – the first! – in the shape of Jay-Dee, Kaela and Brian)
Hard Wired
I’ve sung these songs before
At the darkest time of year
Since I was four
Bright sounds to frighten fear
I’ve hoped for an end before
To feeling lost in the dark
But play the tunes and we all sing
Brightness makes a spark
Hard wired to hope we are
Like day follows night
Let me lie down I will sleep
I have no hope except to believe
That hope will kick in soon
Hard wired to hope we are
I’ll on the floor if you need me
Waiting like the heathen waits for Christ
Lost but willing to be surprised
Dark nights
Bright sounds
Hard wired
This lottery will solve nothing
Why should I win?
Random selection but still I check
Knowing I won’t but hoping again
It’s the rhythm of my life I guess
Like Easter, birthday, Christmas
Like singing bright songs on the darkest night
Late hope arrives propitious
Hard wired to hope we are
Like day follows night
Let me lie down and I will sleep
I have no hope except to believe
That hope will kick in soon
Easy is too easy it doesn’t stick
Watch out because easy soon slips
Difficult weeks follow difficult days
Then you’re drowning and not able to wave
Hope is life’s biggest joke
It’s the hope that will kill us all in the end
I play the same old songs
I hear hope sing along
Hard wired to hope
I’ll on the floor if you need me
Waiting like the heathen waits for Christ
Lost but willing to be surprised
On dark nights
I sing bright sounds
I’m hard wired
