This is another song from my Prurience project which is about addiction to pornography. It’s another metaphor for the indirect pleasure of watching visual material instead of experiencing for yourself. I posted One Real Touch a few weeks ago.

The project is in development at the moment and I’m really excited how it’s coming together. Working on it at the National Theatre Studio a couple of months ago was a very creative process with excellent actors who came with me on the journey of doing something a little different.
I’m not sure if the songs will make it to the finished piece. There were interesting responses to the last Prurience song – I hope you find something to engage you in this one.
lyrics:
Fireworks on TV
Impotent explosions
Second hand emotions
Can’t you and me agree
To try for something more
To feel glorious or feel bored
Not surfing a virtual sea
Unending unreality
Not fireworks on TV
My brain is not invited
Only neurons are excited
Pre reptilian, vermillion flesh
I reject consciousness
Explosives taints the air
But somewhere not here
I imagine how it burns those there to see
It smells lonely
Fireworks on TV
Impotent explosions
Second hand emotions
